Brand Identity, Web, and Packaging for a celebrated Sonoma winery.

KEN FREEMAN
Owner / Freeman Winery
Cultivating the Freeman Vineyard & Winery brand from pre-opening to its recognition as one of Sonoma's top 25 wineries.
Since 2001, Freeman Vineyard & Winery has pioneered cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, helping define a balanced, restrained winemaking style embraced by collectors worldwide.
I partnered with owners Ken and Akiko Freeman prior to their launch, crafting their logo, wine labels, packaging, print collateral, and website. Over the past 25 years, Freeman wines have been served at White House State Dinners, featured on world-class wine lists, and named to The San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 25 Sonoma Wineries list.
BRAND IDENTITY & PACKAGING
Everything old is new again.
While Freeman harvests from the cool Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast, their winemaking techniques remain distinctly Burgundian.
The logo balances Old World and New World influences, pairing classic serif typography with an etching of the winery, wine cave, and surrounding redwoods—offering a warm, rustic alternative to traditional French château labels.
The label design leaves ample space at the bottom to accommodate a growing portfolio of varietals and small-lot bottlings. Select labels feature both English and Japanese script, honoring co-founder and winemaker Akiko Freeman’s heritage.
WEBSITE & PHOTOGRAPHY
Where the pavement ends, the experience begins.
What started as an off-the-beaten-path production facility quickly became a destination on the Sonoma wine trail. Guests can book cave tastings, picnic in the redwood grove, or stay at The Cottage, an on-site guest residence.
The website blends detailed wine notes, e-commerce, brand history, and photography to encourage visits.
I art directed photographers Nader Khouri and Dawn Heumann across seasonal shoots capturing the full Freeman experience: harvest, winemaking, packaging, cellar tastings, the surrounding estate, and the people that keep it humming.
